What Type of Medicare Plan Might Be a Good Fit for You?

Are you new to Medicare? Choosing Medicare coverage can be a challenge. There may be several Medicare coverage choices in your vicinity. But how do you know which Medicare coverage choice might work for you?

Medicare coverage choices: what are they?

When you become eligible for Medicare, in most cases you’ll be automatically enrolled in Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance).

Together, Part A and Part B are also known as Original Medicare. They come with certain costs, such as deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. Most people pay a monthly premium for Part B, but if you’ve worked at least 10 years while paying Medicare taxes, you generally won’t pay a Part A premium.

You can stay with Original Medicare, and optionally enroll in:

  • A stand-alone Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan

Alternatively, you can get your Original Medicare (Part A and Part B) benefits through a Medicare Advantage plan (except hospice benefits, which Part A still provides). You need to continue paying your Medicare Part B monthly premium, as well as any premium the plan may charge you.
