If you’re a resident of Washington enrolled in the Medicare program, or about to be eligible for Medicare benefits, you may be interested in the plans offered by Premera Blue Cross. Here’s a brief rundown on the Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans Premera Blue Cross offers. Plan availability may vary throughout the state.
Medicare Advantage Plans (HMO)
Medicare Advantage is another way to get your Medicare Part A and Part B benefits. Medicare Advantage plans are required to cover everything that Medicare Part A and Part B covers except for hospice care, which Part A still covers.
If you live in King, Pierce, Snohomish, Spokane or Thurston counties in Washington, you may have three Premera Blue Cross Medicare Advantage plans available to you. The plans are called HMO, Classic HMO, and Classic Plus HMO. These Medicare Advantage plans, which start at a $0 monthly plan premium, may cover prescription drugs, preventative routine dental care, routine vision care and/or fitness benefits, as well as basic health care like primary care provider visits and inpatient hospital care. Usually the higher the plan premium, the more extensive the coverage. With all these Medicare Advantage plans you must continue to pay your Medicare Part B premium.
Premera Blue Cross Medicare Supplement plans
Another option you may have is to apply for a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan to help pay for Medicare’s out-of-pocket costs. Different Medigap plans may pay for different amounts of those costs, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Premera Blue Cross is a private insurance company in Washington.
Most Medicare Supplement plans offer flexibility to see any doctor that accepts Medicare assignment. Premera Blue Cross offers four Medicare Supplement plans in Washington: Plan A, Plan F, High Deductible Plan F, and Plan N. These plans start at $90 per month. Not all plans may be available in all areas of the state, and premiums may vary depending on where you live.
